UPDATE New Guardians of the Galaxy: Behind the Scenes Images

Star Lord

Marvel have released some behind the scenes shots of the new Guardians of the Galaxy film,  providing us with new looks at Chris Pratt’s ‘Starlord’ and Bradley Cooper’s ‘Rocket Raccoon’.  Zoe Saldana looks mean in green as ‘Gamora’, ‘Thanos” adopted daughter, the latter will be appearing in an extended cameo in the film, having his first proper role after his brief appearance in ‘The Avengers’.  In addition to these images, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director James Gunn teased how the film will connect to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, “[Guardians of the Galaxy] is definitely connected to Avengers 3”.

Personally, I can’t wait for the next addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I am excited to see how Guardians of the Galaxy will connect to the third installment of the Avengers series. These images give us a brief but insightful glimpse into what to expect from the newest arrival to the Marvel Family, I particularly love the image of them all in yellow jumpsuits looking like they just broke out of prison – top class badassery.

What interests me most about this latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic canon is that Guardians is a relatively unknown property,  making it fresh and exciting. As of yet the film has little to do with the other Marvel films meaning it can exist on it’s own as an insight into the constantly expanding wacky universe that has been expertly created over the years. The silver orb seems to be a major plot point and could be one of Thanos’ Infinity Stones (Gems in the comics), perhaps making this film more of a tie in to The Avengers 3 than Age of Ultron. If writer/director James Gunn (Scooby-Doo & Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed) can bring his signature wit and humour to this project I think we are in for a hit.

EDIT: A new behind the scenes video has been released, watch it here:

  1. Definitely looking forward to this one. I don’t know much about the comics, but I certainly hadn’t heard about Guardians of the Galaxy before the movie was announced. Marvel is getting bold if they’re confident enough to adapt an obscure comic featuring a talking raccoon with a machine.

    • They certainly are, I mean who’d have thought looking back that Iron Man was a risk for the studio. It seems that the Marvel brand these days is so profitable that they could literally sell anything, maybe a Howard the Duck remake is on the cards?

      • With the success of the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, Marvel can get away with Squirrel Girl (again, I’m not an expert on comic books; I just find out about these things online, either randomly or out of curiosity).
